The Signal Room
Dial B is an adult chat site dressed as a late-night radio band: sixteen invented hosts, each running a written show. Nothing is transmitted and every host is an AI character.
What the station is
We invented 16 women who work in the small hours of an imaginary radio band, from a gale-warning reader to a poetry host to the technician who keeps the transmitter honest. Each has a format, a slot and a manner of reading your message before she answers it. That is all there is to the service. We chose radio because the form was made for people who are awake when they should not be, and who would like a voice that asks for nothing.
About the name
The address promises something live, and we cannot honour it. No stream exists here, no sound, no moving image and no performer. We repeat that on the front page and on every list so nobody has to discover it at the till. What you have instead is typed company, kept the way a logbook is kept.
What this station will not do
- Put you in touch with any real person: there is nobody to ring.
- Imitate a real station, call sign or presenter.
- Show your messages to anyone, or sell them to anyone.
- Allow anyone below 18 into a scene, whatever the excuse.
Writing to the desk
Someone real opens the mailbox listed at the foot of the page. Complaints, corrections and demands for a better poem all land there, and the poems get weighed with the utmost seriousness.
